Personal reflection and experience as well as instruction on working with cacao as a healer and spiritual teacher.
Cacao Healing: A Journey to the Heart
I do not consider myself an expert in cacao ceremonies; there are likely many others who have delved deeply into this sacred practice. However, healing is universal, and sometimes, limited resources or access may compel us to find our own way to nurture and restore ourselves. Cacao is one of the tools gifted by the Creator to reconnect with our inner essence, and it offers a gentle yet profound path toward healing.
Inspired by a channeling of Quetzalcoatl, I embarked on my own cacao journey. In the past, I have explored practices such as Ayahuasca, Kambo, Rapé, and Bufo. While these are powerful tools for awakening, cacao speaks differently—it does not call us into psychedelic realms but rather invites us to connect with the heart in a natural, grounded way.
Unlike some entheogens, cacao does not induce visions or out-of-body experiences. Instead, when approached with mindfulness, reverence, and clear intention, it can guide us to a place of deep inner healing. It is a gentle teacher that reconnects us with the essence of love, a reflection of the Creator’s infinite compassion.
Cacao is not simply a substance—it is a being. When you approach cacao with the sacredness it deserves, you are creating an opportunity for healing to unfold. It is not about forcing the mind beyond its limits but about embracing the natural rhythms of the heart and allowing clarity and balance to emerge.
Cacao in the Sacred Landscape of Amatlán
Recently, I spent time in Amatlán de Quetzalcoatl, Mexico, a region known as the birthplace of Quetzalcoatl. Surrounded by mountains, stars, and the whispers of nature, I sought solitude for reflection and healing. My initial purpose for visiting was simply to connect with myself through cacao, but the journey became one of transformation when I chose to end a 16-year relationship just before my departure.
In this redefined journey, cacao became my ally in processing pain, releasing remorse, and rediscovering forgiveness. The mountains seemed to hold my pain as the stars reminded me of the infinite love within the universe.
Cacao as a Sacred Being
Cacao is more than a plant; it is a spirit that mirrors your own essence. When approached with reverence, cacao responds by unlocking the pathways to your deepest truths. It is as though you are meeting yourself in a cup.
In preparing cacao, intention is everything. From the grinding of the beans to the boiling of water, infuse every step with love and care. Treat it as you would a sacred ritual. Here are some suggestions to enhance your ceremony:
1. Fasting – Fast for 24 hours before the ceremony. This clears the body and mind, allowing the cacao to work unimpeded.
2. Sacred Space – Create a clean, quiet, and intentional space. Light a flame to symbolize the creative spark within and focus your attention on its dance.
3. Intentions – Speak or whisper your intention to the cacao as you prepare it. Be sincere in your desires for healing, clarity, or connection.
4. Meditation – Before drinking, meditate deeply. Gaze into the flame, reflecting on the light within you. Open your heart to receive what the cacao offers. Welcome your guides, your higher-self. Welcome Cacao.
5. Drinking – As you drink, imagine yourself drinking in the healing essence of the Creator. Let it flow through your body and guide you where healing is needed.
Healing Through the Heart
The cacao ceremony is not merely an external act; it is a dialogue with yourself and the Creator. It is a moment of self-love, an opportunity to connect with your higher self, and a chance to let go of old wounds.
In my own ceremony, I found that cacao is not only a drink but a teacher, a brother, and a reflection of the love I had forgotten within myself. It showed me that healing is not something external to be sought but something already present, waiting to be recognized.
Remember, you are the greatest teacher in your life. With the gentle guidance of cacao, you can unlock the wisdom within your heart. Treat it with gratitude, reverence, and love, and you will see that healing flows as naturally as the breath of life itself.
